Railway Tunnel Tour

SIE000004_0.jpg

About this event

Thursday 26th September 2019

Join us at 7.00 pm for a special guided tour through over 150 years of railway history as we venture through both our Victorian railway tunnel and the later narrow gauge tunnel. On the way your guide will point out places of interest in the tunnels and tell the history of their use from the days of the steam train, via the electric railway and their wartime use as Tunnel Town, to the final years as a fairground rubbish tip. The tour takes the visitor through parts of the system not open to visitors on our standard tours and as there are no lights the journey will be lit only by torches.

Due to the nature of the tunnel floor sensible shoes should be worn for the 1.5mile underground tour and it's not recommended for those unsteady on their feet or for children under the age of 10. Whilst there will be torches available it is suggested that participants bring their own as well.
