As the bitterly cold winter of 1940 set in, Ramsgate was a town in the grips of war, scarred by earlier air raids with a population hoping that it would all be over by Christmas. Air raids continued throughout the month, including some perpetrated by aircraft of the Italian Air Force! Meanwhile, below ground, residents of the tunnels grew restless as conditions started to deteriorate as good will started to run thin.
Join the Ramsgate Tunnels Team once again, at 16:00, for one of our dramatic blackout tours, as our experienced guides take you back to the dark days of November 1940, lit only with parrafin lamps. Owing to restricted visibility on the tours and the parrafin lamps used, it is deemed unsuitable for those aged 12 and below and for those with restricted mobility.
