The Ramsgate Air Raid Experience

It’s November 1940 and Ramsgate is experiencing daily air raids. Take part in our immersive experience with living history reenactors and find out what it was like living through those times…

The sirens sound, you and your family rush to shelter in the tunnels, but how long will you be there? What will you do while the raid is taking place? Will you have a home to go to when the raid is over? Will life be the same?

Our experienced hosts will take you on a journey through the air raid shelters highlighting the significant role the shelters played in protecting the inhabitants of Ramsgate during the Second World War.


  • PHYSICAL FITNESS AND MOBILITY IS ESSENTIAL
  • Due to the uneven and occasionally rough nature of the tunnel floor, sensible shoes should be worn for the air raid experience with warm clothing strongly encouraged as the temperature remains at a constant 11ºc.
  • You will be required to climb multiple sets of stairs, ascending and descend a 2.5 metre secure steel ladder during the experience. 
  • The tour is only suitable for those aged 7 and above. 
  • Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Make sure to dress for the prevailing weather conditions, the tour will continue if it is raining, and make sure to bring warm clothing for inside the Tunnels - it is a constant temperature of 11 c.
  • A safety briefing will be given at the start of your experience and you will be issued with a hi-visibility vest.
  • There are flickering lights and loud sounds throughout the Air Raid Experience


We require at least 48 hours' notice for tickets to be cancelled, after this period, tickets are non-refundable. 

We recommend that you arrive at least 10 minutes before the experience starts. Please be respectful to other visitors by arriving on time for the start of your experience

Please note that tickets are non-transferable, if you miss your timed experience no refunds will be given.

There is a council pay and display car park adjacent to the tunnel entrance, we advise you to download the RingGo app before arrival, although there may be free parking available on the cliff top nearby, please allow 2 hours parking for your visit. There are no toilets available within the tunnels although public toilets are located a short distance from the tunnel entrance.
