Four Thousand Lives, The Rescue - Talk by Clare Ungerson

In 1939 the Kitchener Camp, a derelict army base on the Kent coast near Sandwich, became the scene of an extraordinary rescue in which almost 4,000 Jewish men from continental Europe were saved from the Holocaust.  Join us for an evening with Clare Ungerson on her book 'Four Thousand Lives: The Rescue of German Jewish Men to Britain, 1939' on the 7th of March at 7pm. Listen to the remarkable stories of Jewish men rescued from Germany, their respite in Sandwich and how the people of Sandwich reacted to a camp the same size as the town.

This talk is the perfect complement to the 'Leave to Land, 1939' Kitchener Camp exhibition being hosted by Ramsgate Tunnels from 2nd of March until 16th March 2024. The exhibition is on loan from The Wiener Holocaust Library with thanks to The Sandwich Guildhall.

Please remember to dress warmly for this event as Ramsgate Tunnels temperatures are between 9°c - 11°c.
