The Ramsgate Railway Tunnels Tour

18th June Only!
A chance to follow the route of the narrow gauge electric railway that once transported holidaymakers and local residents from Dumpton Park to Ramsgate Main Sands. Opened in 1936 the railway used 800 yards of the original Victorian railway tunnel before heading off at a steep gradient to Hereson Road station. The station was situated about 50 yards from Ramsgate Greyhound Racing Stadium and as well as the holidaymakers and day trippers it also carried happy, and occasionally disgruntled, greyhound racing fans.
This torchlit tour follows the track of this long gone and much missed railway from site of the Ramsgate Sands station to the blocked portal of the tunnel entrance which led to the station at Hereson Road. On the way your guide will point out places of interest within the tunnel as well as telling the story of the electric railway from inception to sad closure in 1965.

Due to the uneven and occasionally rough nature of the tunnel floor, it is your responsibility for the safety of small children and those unsteady on their feet within your party. Unfortunately, we are not able to admit wheelchairs, prams, or buggies on this tour. Warm clothing is strongly encouraged as the tunnel network remains at a constant 11ΒΊc.

Please be respectful to other visitors by arriving on time for the start of your tour. We recommend that you arrive at least 10 minutes before the tour departs.

Please note tickets are non-transferable if you miss your timed tour no refunds will be given.
